Toronto District School Board trustees have given final approval to Toronto's first Africentric school, but not without another meeting filled with acrimony and charges of racism.
The issue is one of the most controversial ever put to the board.
The school will open in September 2009, and will occupy unused space at Sheppard Public School, near Sheppard Avenue and Keele Street. It will serve students from junior kindergarten to Grade 5. source

Finally, Now I want to be a teacher.!!!
hmmm...for many, many reasons i totally disagree with this decision made by the TDSB.
This has been a heated debate regarding the school, even though personally I would rather the school board introduce courses and classes to include the vast cultural difference in Toronto. But if they do this will only contradict everything that has already been taught to students over the past 50 years. History is taught through the eyes of Europeans and pretty much everyone else mainly blacks are whited out of history. And I feel this is the reason why they don't want to allow other ethnic groups to have their own schooling..
For example, yesterday I searched events that happened on my birthday august 24 on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_24
and in 1858 - In Richmond, Virginia, 90 blacks are arrested for learning.
Isn't this crazy, every since our descendants have stepped on to this land we've been held back from learning.
But I do understand where your coming from on the decision the TDSB has made.
