Bold And Beautiful 2008: COOKIE JOHNSON

THE MESSENGER Since Earvin “Magic” Johnson revealed his condition 16 years ago, Cookie Johnson has remained somewhat quiet about what it's like to be married to someone who is HIV-positive. But after encountering a young woman who contracted the disease and yet knew nothing about it, Johnson decided she had to do more. This year she's traveling to several cities nationwide with the “I Stand With Magic” campaign, a partnership between the Magic Johnson Foundation and Abbott pharmaceuticals, which aims to teach prevention and provide resources for testing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Black women accounted for 66 percent of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses in 2005. continue reading
