Critically ill Canadian denied re-entry from Mexico

The family of a Canadian woman who fell critically ill due to a severe asthma attack in Mexico says that health officials in Canada are refusing her a hospital bed in Toronto because of unfounded swine flu fears.

Victoria George, 29, has been on life support in a Cancun hospital since Wednesday. Her mother says that her insurance provider has been repeatedly told there are no intensive care unit beds available for her to be transferred to in the Greater Toronto Area.

"Doctors in Mexico told (Victoria's) husband, 'She has no symptoms or pathologies of the swine flu-virus and she never did: her condition is a direct result of her asthma,'" Pauline George told CTV.ca in a telephone interview late Sunday evening. Continue reading here.

Thanks for the support. She is my friends cousin. And we are hoping she will be let back in very soon.

She actually tested negative for the swine and the government is just being an a$$ !

This is sad since both illnesses affect the respiratory system. Mexico has a severe shortage of the Tamiflu and Relenza and many people are dying because of this. Have the authorities determined that this is also a strain of the Swine flu and not her asthma? I hope that she was not treated with Relenza because this could have an adverse effect on her since she is asthmatic. The Canadian government must allow her into country and quarantine her to ensure that she is not carrying the virus. Right now we have people panicking and not actually observing what’s really going on.

There is a lot of conflicting reports coming out. On the news this morning, the Ministry of Health, has stated that beds are available. Mexican doctors have also cleared her of having the swine flu. The family has the fax from the doctors in Mexico.

That's crazy, I can't imagine how her family feels. It must be terrible for them. I sure hope this flu virus won't spread more and become a big threat. It is already causing a lot of trouble and sadness.

Take care, Lorne

Victoria George has passed away this is a quote below from her husband Dylan Pazzano

"Right now I am so numb, exhausted, just depleted. My beautiful wife, Victoria, passed away last night at 945pm in the ICU at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. I am honestly trying to use this forum as an outlet for my feelings, but at this time I am surrrounded by love and support from so many, but feel so cold and empty inside. I have the extremely daunting task of trying to explain to our son today that he will not be seeing his mommy again and I have no explaination as to why. I made sure that before he was sent home from Cancun that he was able to feel the softness of her touch, and taste the sweetness of her cheek. I feel so lost without her already. I emplore all of you to please take those that you love in you're arms and tell them everything that you feel, because you never, ever want to lose that oppourtunity to do that, and you never know what might happen. Hold them tight. Feel them, inhale them. Never take for granted the people in you're life. Love hard."
