Desiree Rogers Named CEO Of Johnson Publishing Company

Desiree Rogers former White House Social Secretary has recently been named the cheif executive officer of Johnson Publishing.  Linda Johnson Rice will remain the chairman of her family company founded by her father John H Johnson. via{huffingtonpost}

White House social secretary to step down

Desiree Rogers, the White House social secretary, plans to step down, the Obama administration announced Friday.  Her office came under scrutiny after a couple who lacked an invitation were allowed into President Obama's first state dinner. 


"We are enormously grateful to Desiree Rogers for the terrific job she's done as the White House social secretary," the president and first lady said in a statement released Friday. In an interview on Friday, Rogers said she was leaving voluntarily and that her decision was unrelated to the fallout over the security breach.  Read more here.

“As a young child in New Orleans raised by two teachers, giving back to one’s community was as important as reading, writing and arithmetic,” she recalls. “My father taught in the public school system and my mother ran the family day care business for children under five. A Day in the Life of VALERIE JARRETT

Jarrett was born in Shiraz, Iran, where her father worked as a pathologist and geneticist and ran a hospital for children to jump-start healthcare efforts in developing countries. Her family lived in Iran until she was five, then spent a year in London before settling in Chicago when she was six. Jarrett has a rich family history: Her great-grandfather was the first African American to graduate from MIT; her grandfather was the first African American to head the Chicago Housing Authority; and her father was the first African-American resident at St. Luke's Hospital. With this legacy came some wonderful opportunities for Jarrett, as well as a sense of responsibility that has created a desire to perform public service.
