A permanent wave, commonly called a perm, is the chemical and/or thermal treatment of hair to produce waves or curls. The use of the word 'permanent' is justified insofar as when the wave is permed, it remains so; however, as the hair grows, the new hair that grows has not been waved, while cutting the hair from the end removes that which is waved, giving the impression that the permanent wave gradually disappears. In cosmetology, it is termed a type of curl reformation.

You know it things like this that amazes me. Black women try to straigten their hair white women want their hair curly. Black women try to hide their breasts and butts white women try to get breasts and butts with implants. Some black women don't like to be dark so they go as extreme as using bleaching creams. White women go extreme and stay in the sun to tan so they can get a bronze color on their skin. Something are just amazing.
Yeap Tiff. Curling irons, roller sets, the 1950's "roller set look", the crimping iron, etc., were all marketed towards white women. Let's have a full on self hatred talk now about how white women roasting in the sun and getting skin cancer is because of slavery, or that white women wanting butt implants is about slavery, or that white women using anti-wrinkling cream means they want to "look black" after they get 30 since black women age better than they do. Something tells me we will NEVER hear that though.
Black women are the only race of women who get into "trouble" from the "act black crew" for simply experimenting with new "looks" or beautifying ourselves. As though black women are trying to steal the sunshine from white women when we go to spa's or do yoga. Because, god forbid, we think we have the same rights white women have to "enhance" or "change" our appearance occasionally, to look more desirable or different.

Thank you, no one would dare tell a women of european descent that they are trying to look "black" even though they are they have been since their men laid eyes on our female ancestors centuries ago (lets just keep that hush hush).
No one would ever have that coversation at all.

Sad but true, I experience this myself, I get ridiculed for the simple act of weaving my hair. Hair extensions have been around for ages not just in Africa but in many parts of the world.
Look what the women in the picture went through just to get her hair curly, now thats crazy lol.

I agree though, no one makes a complaint towards other women who will go all out to acheive a cetain look, or texture.
White women may tan, but there is no paper bag test for them to determine their worth. In some societies, darker skinned is linked with being lower class, but nowhere is paler skin considered lower class. White women may manipulate their hair (straighten or curl) but there isn't the "good hair" label.
I fully support anyone of any race enhancing their looks however they choose. However, I don't think it's as simple to just compare white women's beauty standards with black's because of the value and degree of stigma of each.

European women BURN in the sun, which can cause cancer. Isn't cancer harmful.

That's because Europeans hold the status quo, they are in power and what they say goes, prior to European domination dark skin did not mean lower class, this is why people need to stop living by their rules and learn and embrace their own history not the foolishness Europeans continue to teach people via tv, school books etc they have wiped out our true history and image.

This good hair bad hair label only continues on because of "black" people/women/men. So as long as people continue to use these stupid labels the problem will continue. No one wants to let go, because they use it to place themselves above other people just like the natural vs perm debate.

It's very simple for me because I reseach my history and there are tons of things that European women have done in order to mimick a African women/women of african descent but people refuse to believe it because we are bombarded with their images on a daily basis, and european women continue to place themselves on a pedestal.
