Betty Allen, an American mezzo-soprano who become an internationally known opera singer as well as a voice teacher and arts administrator, was born as Elizabeth Louise Allen, (or Betty Lou), was born on March 17, 1927, in Campbell, Ohio, near Youngstown. She died in Valhalla, N.Y. on June 22, 2009. She was 82.
She was known for her collaborations with American composers, such as Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Ned Rorem, among others. She was a frequent performer at many of the world's greatest opera hours, such as the Metropolitan Opera and the New York City Opera. source
