Desert Flower is a booked about the life of model Waris Dirie who fought for social reform in Somalia against female genital mutilation. The book was adapted into a movie produced by Peter & Benjamin Herrmann . Liya Kebede plays the part of Waris Dirie, the film was released fall 2009. View trailer above.

The late model and author, Katoucha Niane also fought for and led an extensive campaign before she died against female genital mutilation in her native Guinea and Senegal. These two women were courageous in their quest to end this horrid practice that scars and destroys the futures of many girls.
